Società di Progetto Autovia Padana S.p.A. was founded on 2 December 2015 following the awarding of the tender called by the Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport to manage the A21 Piacenza–Cremona–Brescia motorway section and the turnoff to Fiorenzuola d’Arda and the Ospitaletto–Montichiari motorway nterchange.

The historic stretch was inaugurated on 11 November 1971. Autovia Padana took over management from the previous concessionaire on 1 March 2018.
